Why cold pressed

A gentler way to bring oil from seed to bottle.

Cold pressing uses mechanical pressure to extract oil while avoiding excessive heat, solvent extraction and intensive refining. The result stays closer to the seed it came from—with its natural flavour, aroma and character intact.

See how it is made

The process

Simple by design. Careful at every step.

Cold pressing is not about adding more. It is about handling good seeds thoughtfully and doing less to the oil.

01

Select & clean

Quality seeds are carefully selected, cleaned and prepared before pressing.

02

Gently press

Mechanical pressure releases the oil while unnecessary heat and solvent extraction are avoided.

03

Settle & filter

The freshly pressed oil is allowed to settle, then filtered to remove natural seed particles.

04

Bottle with care

The finished oil is packed carefully to protect its natural flavour, aroma and character.

Understanding the difference

Not all oils take the same journey.

“Traditional” can mean different things. Cold pressing is itself a traditional mechanical method, so the clearest comparison is with hotter expeller pressing and industrial refining.

Oil typeExtractionProcessingNatural characterTypical use
Conventional pressed oilExpeller pressed

Mechanical pressing where friction may create more heat

May be filtered further or refined after extraction

Natural character can vary depending on temperature and later processing

General cooking, depending on the oil and its final treatment

Refined oilHighly processed

Extraction followed by stages such as degumming, bleaching and deodorisation

Designed to remove odour, colour, free fatty acids and other compounds

Usually lighter in colour with a more neutral, consistent taste

Broad cooking use and typically a longer, more consistent shelf life

Why people choose it

More of what makes each seed distinctive.

  • Minimal processingA shorter journey from the seed to the finished oil.
  • Natural flavour & aromaThe individual character of each seed remains easier to recognise.
  • Naturally occurring compoundsGentler processing can retain more tocopherols, plant sterols and other minor compounds than intensive refining.

A useful note: cold-pressed oil is still oil and has broadly similar calories to other edible oils. Its quality also depends on the seed, pressing, storage and how it is used. Store it away from heat and light, and choose the right oil and temperature for each recipe.
